“Art With Heart”: Celebrating Refugee Rights Day
On April 4th, 2022, we hosted our first in-person Refugee Rights Day event at The Walper Hotel and it was an astounding evening.
We welcomed back our amazing philanthropic friends and supporters for an evening of art walks in downtown Kitchener, complimentary appetizers and our signature mocktail BEEyond Borders all in the name of a good time and a good cause. Furthering this communal spirit was the lovely piano music being played live by talented young volunteers.
The reception was followed by presentations from our Executive Director, Shelley Campagnola, our caseworker and star artist of the night, Daniel Habte, and our Laurier Human Rights intern, Jamie McCourt. All the while, our guests were left inspired and with a new outlook on how to welcome refugee claimants into the workplace.

The night came to an end with prize giveaways and an auction. Our mural scavenger-goer teams all left with a smile and prize donated by our generous local businesses in support of the refugee cause. Last but certainly not least, the beautiful “Colour of Freedom” painting that represents the journey of a refugee claimant being reunited with his wife went home with a lucky bidder for $1,250.
We simply could not do this event without the support of our attendees. Thank you for showing up and supporting refugee claimants seeking safety in our communities- we truly appreciate your support.
SAVE THE DATE: See you on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, for another extraordinary night!
