STORY: The family had landed at the airport having no idea what to do next. Their taxi driver knew about us and drove the family for free to our community, dropping them off at a motel for the night and telling them to look for us. The next day, the family walked 90 minutes with luggage in tow, arriving at our office late in the afternoon hungry, cold, and grateful for the warm welcome and that we could help them with every aspect of support they needed.
Our Accompany programs are built with the social determinants of health in mind using a THRIVE framework (see below) to address the unique settlement needs of refugee claimants. Our Good Neighbour Teams come alongside newly arrived people ensuring their immediate needs are met, and new networks of support and relationships are formed. Our staff and volunteers are always here to support refugee claimants and protected persons until people have permanent residency and their families have been reunited.
