Have you heard? Parties on both sides of the Canada-U.S. Border are bracing for a significant movement of migrants and refugee asylum seekers in response to signals of mass deportations to be executed by the incoming U.S. presidential regime.
So, what is happening?
There is indication that the National Guard in the United States will be mobilized to swiftly move into communities and scoop up undocumented migrants deemed to be a threat to U.S. Society. Families will be torn apart, disrupted, and sent back. For some, it will be to places they have never been. There won’t be a process of determining if some are innocent victims, beyond administrative matters related to their immigration status. It will be assumed if they are undocumented, they are a threat to society and need to be removed no matter the consequences to them on the other side.
On the Canadian side, according to a report in the New York Times, “Canadian officials are drawing up plans to add patrols, buy new vehicles and set up emergency reception facilities at the border between New York State and the province of Quebec to prepare for what they expect to be a surge in migrants because of Mr. Trump’s hard line on deportations.”
Everyone is acting like they have been invaded or are about to be. What a way to talk about people who just want to be safe, like you and me. What a way to talk about men, women and children who have already been through so much and are about to go through it again. This time it will be at the hands of those they had hoped would protect them. It will be like having a bulldozer scraping them out of the U.S. on the one side, only to be slammed into a rock wall on the other.
This is not an invasion.
It is an implosion of our humanity, and of our immigration systems which have become willfully stuck in the rhetoric of fear and manufactured need for self-preservation, and the blatant, callous unrepentance of using people as pawns for personal power.
