COMPASS Refugee Centre is situated on the Haldimand Tract. We embrace that truth as an urgent invitation to keep present in our thoughts and hearts that we help people seeking refuge in a country that has not been a place of refuge for Indigenous Peoples.

We also hold with an ever-learning heart that the influence of Canada on Indigenous Peoples is not limited to Indigenous Peoples in Canada. Borders do not define our responsibility. Canadian presence in other countries challenges us all to consider the impact of such presence on Indigenous Peoples in those countries.

We post today to celebrate Indigenous culture and heritage, AND to call us all to a deeper understanding of our responsibility wherever we are in the world.
