A family with three children was reunited with an older child through the PR Family Reunification process. Another one of their overseas children will be arriving in Canada this year, hopefully before Christmas. The parents and the three children had arrived in Canada in 2018, so they have been separated for about 5 years. They are excited their process is nearly finished now.
This is just one of many such outcomes that your giving has made possible!
- Many community members in Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas have opened their homes, or offered affordable housing solutions. This informal network of hospitality and welcome has offered hope and solutions to many individuals and families who otherwise could have been on the streets.
- COMPASS was granted 25 housing subsidies through the Canada Ontario Housing Benefit program to either get people out of emergency shelter or keep them from ending up there. We prioritized families with children as well as households with exceptional vulnerabilities. We are thankful that Liz Perez, a long-time friend of COMPASS could join our team for a few weeks, along with an amazing team of volunteers who helped with applications, so we could get the subsidies allocated.
- We are thrilled to be taking next steps with Just Working Construction as we plan, pray, and implement together a holistic model of temporary housing and hopefully forever community for refugee claimants. The vision is bold, relational, and is already working on a smaller scale. Your giving is making creative solutions like this possible.
SVP Teens Waterloo Region visited our office to learn more about how COMPASS changes lives and builds community. The visit launched their preparations for a fundraiser to support the ACCOMPANY pillar of our mission which envisions people having opportunity to T.H.R.I.V.E. through pathways to well-being and belonging!
Join Josi Pape, our Program Assistant, on November 29th at 7:00pm! COMPASS is partnering with PsyMood to present a webinar titled: Embracing Newcomer Challenges With A Refugee Heart.
