GOVERNANCE

We know it is important to you that your donation is being used effectively and making a real difference in the lives of people seeking refuge and protection in Canada. It is important to us, too. We are committed to accountability and transparency. Our books and financial systems and controls are audited every year. Our Board carefully reviews the outcomes of the audit to ensure we are fulfilling the highest standards and best practices.

In 2025, COMPASS remained a place of peace, welcome and hope for 2,400 people. Our theme, Life Beyond Refuge, gave our team focus and brought hope to those we helped.

Our theme for 2026 is Courageous Welcome. It is a call to people like you who cherish what is right and good: to stand alongside those seeking refuge and to see them through the lens of our shared humanity and our commitment to dignity for all.

Courage will be required on every side. For those forced to flee, courage means leaving behind the familiar in search of safety and hope. For those who offer protection and support, courage means choosing compassion over fear, action over indifference, and welcome over withdrawal.

A warm welcome does not happen by accident. It must be expressed intentionally and experienced genuinely. It lives in policies that protect, in communities that embrace, and in neighbours who show up.

Canadians are known around the world for both courage and welcome. Yet when times grow uncertain and tensions rise, these values can be tested. Courageous Welcome challenges us not only to uphold these ideals when it is easy, but to embody them especially when it is hard.

In 2026, we commit to choosing courage.
We commit to offering welcome.
We commit to walking together toward a future where dignity is protected and humanity is honoured.

OUR BOARD

COMPASS Refugee Centre invites applications for the Board of Directors

The COMPASS vision is that every person coming to Canada seeking refuge will have unhindered access to justice and the opportunity to thrive in welcoming communities.

Our volunteer Board of Directors has an important role.  We set the strategic direction, provide financial and governance oversight, and advocate for the resources and public policies that are necessary to fulfill our vision.

If you share our vision and would like to discuss a possible role on the Board or one of its committees, we invite you to review the description and expectations of Board members found here: COMPASS Board of Directors Roles and Responsibilities, and then send an inquiry through our CONTACT form, using BOARD INTEREST in the subject line. A member of the Board will reach out to you for a conversation about your interest.
